A former British Columbia corrections officer has been sentenced to a twoyear conditional term in the community after admitting to breach of trust.
The case involved Ramandeep Rai, who failed to report that an inmate at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam had a cellphone. Court proceedings said Rai was in a romantic relationship with the inmate and that the two communicated through the prison phone system and the phone.
According to the court, Rai did not receive financial benefit from the conduct, and the inmate also used the device for drug trafficking without her knowledge. The sentence includes conditions such as a curfew, community service, and continued counselling.
