Port Moody fireworks warning after boy hit in face, with safety rules explained See what police said and how local firework bans affect Halloween use
Police in Port Moody, British Columbia, issued a warning after a 12yearold boy was struck in the face by a firework on Friday evening near the Port Moody Recreation Complex.
Officers said the boy was taken to hospital and that his injuries were not lifethreatening. Police also said the incident appeared to be accidental, but the youth who set off the firework was fined $500.
Authorities said fireworks use increases across Metro Vancouver in the weeks before Halloween, even as many local governments restrict or ban consumer fireworks. Port Moody police reminded residents that fireworks are prohibited yearround in the city unless a permit is obtained through Port Moody Fire Rescue.
