Fed rate hike odds fall after weak September jobs report

Fed rate hike odds fall after weak jobs data and cooler inflation readings See how traders now price October and December moves as the labor market softens

Traders have lowered the chances of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October after a weakerthanexpected September jobs report and a cooler inflation reading earlier in the week. Market pricing now suggests only a small chance of another move at the Fed's Oct. 28 meeting, with futures and prediction markets showing sharply reduced odds compared with a week earlier. The economy added 29,000 jobs in September, well below expectations, which added to signs that the labor market is softening. Even so, traders still expect the central bank to raise rates in December. The Fed's next policy decision is scheduled for the end of its twoday meeting on Oct. 28.
