Stellantis signs MOU with Roshel on possible Brampton plant sale

Stellantis Brampton plant sale could revive idle operations with Roshel Deal talks may reshape jobs and the local industrial base as bargaining continues

Stellantis says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Canadian armoured vehicle maker Roshel on a possible sale of its idle assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario. The company says it reviewed several options for the site, which has been out of operation since 2023. The announcement comes as Unifor, which represents Stellantis workers in Canada, said it has paused contract talks because of disagreements over the plant’s future. The union said the proposed closure and sale would affect jobs, pensions and other benefits, and would hurt the local industrial base. Stellantis said it sees Roshel as a potential path to restarting operations at the Brampton facility and avoiding a long period of inactivity. The company declined to comment further while bargaining continues. The current collective agreement is set to expire on Sept. 20, and Unifor said it is considering its next steps.
