Ford says Ontario will keep Little Norway Park intact amid airport expansion plan

Billy Bishop airport expansion: Ontario says Little Norway Park will stay See what Ford's plan means for jets, parkland and downtown Toronto

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Monday that the province will not remove Little Norway Park as part of the planned expansion of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, even though legislation could allow the government to take over part of the waterfront site. The bill before the legislature would give Ontario control over the airport from the City of Toronto, as Ford pushes to allow jets to land there. Little Norway Park, which sits near the airport, includes a baseball diamond, walking paths, a wading pool and a playground, and was once the site of a Second World War Norwegian Air Force training base. The proposal has drawn opposition from Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, local residents and Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik, who argue the project could affect parkland and increase traffic, congestion and pollution. Ford said at a separate event that the park would remain untouched.
