Pierrefonds residents push for long-term flooding fix

Residents on Fleming Street in Pierrefonds, on Montreal’s West Island, are calling for a permanent solution after years of repeated flooding. Homeowners say heavy rain has become a regular source of damage and disruption, with some families spending years documenting the problem and reviewing city reports they believe show the issue has been longstanding. One resident, Melissa St. Germain, said flooding has forced her to cancel plans and stay home to protect her property. Neighbours have also taken on added costs, installing sump pumps, generators and other equipment to reduce the risk of water damage. Some have joined a proposed class action lawsuit, while the borough said crews would reconnect a temporary pump before the next forecast rainfall.
