Top Democratic governors, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, are urging Congress to reject a bill that would limit climaterelated lawsuits against oil and gas companies.
In a letter, the governors argued that communities affected by fires, floods, storms and extreme heat should not be left to cover the costs of pollution. They said the measure would shield energy companies from legal accountability.
Supporters of the bill say it would protect American energy producers from litigation that could threaten jobs and raise energy costs. The issue comes as the Supreme Court prepares to hear a related case involving ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy, adding to a broader national debate over climate liability and energy policy.
