A pilot from Sooke, B.C., was killed after the helicopter he was flying crashed while helping fight a wildfire in Colorado.
Nicholas Dale, 56, died on Sunday when the aircraft went down into a reservoir southwest of Aspen during response efforts on the Gold Mountain fire.
Colorado Congressman Jeff Hurd and B.C. Forests Minister Ravi Parmar both offered condolences to Dale’s family, friends and fellow firefighters. Officials said the fire, discovered on June 27, was estimated at 36,965 acres and 12 per cent contained as of Tuesday.
