Toronto consulate shooting: 19-year-old faces charges in March attack case Police say the case involves national security; get the latest on the investigation
A 19yearold has been arrested and charged in connection with a March shooting at the U.S. consulate in Toronto, police said Thursday.
Toronto police said Zara Jabbi was arrested on Wednesday and faces six charges, including discharging a firearm at a place, attacking premises of internationally protected persons, and theft of a vehicle.
Investigators said two people got out of a stolen white vehicle outside the consulate on March 10 and fired multiple shots at the building. Police said surveillance video showed the suspects shooting while recording on their phones, and officers later found shell casings and damage to the consulate's glass and doors. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Scarborough.
Jabbi appeared in court Thursday morning. Police and the RCMP have also charged another 18yearold in connection with the same incident, and the case is being treated as a national security matter.
