Reddit co-founder says tech industry has been tone deaf on AI risks
AI risks: Alexis Ohanian says the industry must explain real threats better See why nuance matters as OpenAI, Anthropic, and RSI fuel the debate
Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian said the tech industry has done a poor job of explaining the risks of artificial intelligence and helping the public understand them, according to comments he made to CNBC on Wednesday.
Ohanian said the discussion around AI should stay focused on real risks rather than turning into a way to score political points. He argued that some of the most extreme warnings, including “Terminator”style scenarios, can distract from more practical concerns.
His remarks came days after researchers at OpenAI and Anthropic warned about rapid advances in recursive selfimprovement, or RSI, where AI systems help build increasingly capable models. Ohanian said the conversation needs more nuance and less misinformation as the technology develops.
