Fulton County challenges DOJ subpoena over 2020 election workers
Fulton County election subpoena fight: officials seek to block DOJ records request See why Georgia election workers' identities are at stake in this federal dispute
Election officials in Fulton County, Georgia, are asking a federal judge to block a Justice Department subpoena seeking identifying information about people who worked on the county’s 2020 election.
The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections filed a motion Monday calling the request unprecedented and arguing that it amounts to harassment of election officials, poll workers, and volunteers. The board also says the subpoena should be quashed because any potential criminal case tied to the 2020 election would be outside the statute of limitations.
The dispute is part of an ongoing federal review of Georgia’s 2020 election processes. The Justice Department has separately pursued access to voter registration data, while FBI agents have conducted searches and reviewed ballothandling concerns in Fulton County.
