Trump nominates Todd Blanche for attorney general

President Donald Trump on Monday nominated Todd Blanche to serve as attorney general, moving to formally fill a role Blanche has held in an acting capacity for more than two months.
The nomination follows Trump’s dismissal of Pam Bondi in April and comes as Blanche faces scrutiny from lawmakers and watchdog groups over Justice Department actions tied to a settlement involving Trump’s dispute with the IRS.
Blanche, a former defense lawyer for Trump, has also been assigned responsibility for handling the Justice Department’s compliance with a law requiring the release of Jeffrey Epsteinrelated files. His confirmation will require Senate approval, where some Republicans have already raised concerns.
