US lawmakers advance bill to codify Bitcoin reserve policy
Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill advances as US lawmakers move to lock in Trump’s plan See what the Treasury’s new crypto stockpile and long-term BTC rules could mean
US lawmakers have advanced a bill that would turn President Donald Trump’s executive order on a strategic Bitcoin reserve into law. The House Financial Services Committee approved the measure 2821 on Wednesday.
The bill, called the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026, would create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a separate digital asset stockpile at the Treasury Department for crypto assets obtained through civil or criminal forfeiture. It would also require federal agencies to report the digital assets they hold and add quarterly reserve reports and thirdparty audits.
According to data cited in the article, the US government is estimated to hold 324,527 bitcoin, valued at about $24.7 billion at the time of writing. The proposal says bitcoin in the federal reserve would need to be held for at least 20 years. The bill still needs approval from the full House and Senate before it can reach the president.
