China manufacturing activity expands faster than expected in August

China manufacturing growth speeds up in August as output, orders and exports rise See why the private PMI beat forecasts and signaled the strongest expansion in months

China's manufacturing sector grew at a quicker pace in August, according to a private survey from RatingDog. The firm's purchasing managers index rose to 51.5, above Reuters' forecast of 51 and higher than the official reading of 49.8 reported earlier in the week. A reading above 50 signals expansion. RatingDog said the improvement was driven by stronger output, new orders and exports. Exports increased at their fastest rate in six months, while new orders from Chinese manufacturers climbed for a 15th straight month. That marks the longest stretch of growth since 2018, according to the survey.
