OHL approves sale of Barrie Colts to John Careri
Barrie Colts get new owner as OHL approves John Careri’s franchise transfer See how his business background and student-athlete focus could shape the team
The Barrie Colts have a new owner after the Ontario Hockey League approved the team’s transfer to Torontoarea businessman John Careri.
The league said Friday that Careri, who leads JONVIC Capital Inc., will take over majority ownership of the franchise after a board of governors meeting. He also owns the Toronto Patriots of the Ontario Junior Hockey League and Everest Academy in Vaughan, Ontario.
Careri replaces Howie Campbell, who bought the Colts from Barrie businessman Jamie Massie in 2006. OHL commissioner Bryan Crawford said Careri’s business background and focus on developing studentathletes should support both the Colts and the league.
