Rogers to become sole owner of MLSE after $4.35 billion deal

Rogers buys MLSE stake for full control of Toronto sports assets and venues See what the $4.35B deal means for fans, ads, and Rogers' media power

Rogers Communications has agreed to buy the remaining 25% stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment from Kilmer Sports Inc. for $4.35 billion, giving it full ownership of one of Toronto’s largest sports groups. The purchase means Rogers will control the Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC, Argonauts, Marlies and Scotiabank Arena, adding to assets it already owns, including the Blue Jays, Rogers Centre and Sportsnet. The deal still needs league approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. Company chief executive Tony Staffieri said the transaction strengthens Rogers’ sports and media business and could support longterm growth. Sports analysts quoted in the article said the change is unlikely to affect fans much, including ticket prices, though it could give Rogers more leverage in advertising and sponsorship negotiations.
