Tornado watch issued for Prince George

Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for Prince George, B.C., on Friday as severe thunderstorms moved through northcentral British Columbia. The agency said conditions were favourable for storms that could produce tornadoes, along with strong winds, large hail and heavy rain. The warning system categorized the event as a yellow watch, indicating high forecast confidence but a moderate expected impact. Environment Canada also said residents should be ready to take shelter if conditions worsen, especially in mobile homes, vehicles, tents or other temporary structures. Other storm watches and warnings were issued across central and northern B.C. as a lowpressure system moved south. In northeastern B.C., a storm warning near Babine Lake included the risk of wind gusts up to 90 km/h, quartersized hail and heavy rainfall. Parts of eastern central Alberta were also under heavy rain warnings.
