Concrete batch plant in Laxgalts’ap boosts Nass Valley supply and local jobs See how the new facility speeds projects, supports training, and cuts material delays
A new concrete batch plant has begun operating in Laxgalts’ap in northwestern British Columbia’s Nass Valley. The facility is designed to mix raw materials such as sand, gravel, water and cement into fresh concrete for nearby projects.
The plant is operated through Hagwil’ooḵ’ Contracting, a partnership between Kitimatbased Hirsch Creek Concrete and Boney Creek Development, the economic arm of the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government. Village officials said the project cost $980,000, including plant and setup expenses, and was funded from Boney Creek’s cash reserves.
Local leaders said the plant is intended to help meet demand for building materials across the Nass Valley and northern B.C. It can supply up to 16 mixer trucks an hour, and the village said two residents have already been hired, with more jobs and training opportunities expected.
