Comer says McConnell staff aim for Senate return later this month

Rep. James Comer said Thursday that he has been in touch with Sen. Mitch McConnell’s staff, who have indicated that the senator’s goal is to return to the Senate later this month.
Comer said he expects McConnell to be back when the Senate resumes on Sept. 14, adding that staff told him they hope the Kentucky Republican will be present when lawmakers return to Washington.
McConnell, 84, fell in June and was later released from a rehabilitation center. He has served in the Senate since 1985 and is not seeking reelection this year.
