Carney government announces new U.S. consular appointments

The federal government has named several new consuls general to posts in major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Detroit.
Kamal Khera, a former Liberal MP and former minister, will serve in Los Angeles. Susannah Pierce, a former Shell Canada executive, has been appointed to New York. Claire Kennedy, a former Bank of Canada director, will take the Chicago post, while career diplomat Andrea Clements will go to Detroit.
The appointments come after the U.S. declined to extend the CanadaU.S.Mexico Agreement earlier this month, a move that leads to rolling reviews of the trade pact and could shape future negotiations.
