Ontario insect decline could affect birds, fish and frogs

Experts say Ontario’s insect numbers appear to be falling, which could have ripple effects across the food chain. CBC’s Talia Ricci visited a GTA nature reserve to look at what scientists are seeing and why fewer insects may matter for birds, fish and frogs that rely on them for food. Researchers say the trend is still being studied, but they point to growing evidence that insect populations in the province are shrinking.
