China promotes AI safety and global cooperation
China AI governance and global cooperation framework for smarter policy choices See how Beijing seeks broader international AI rules and invites countries to join
China said it is accelerating efforts to create a global AI cooperation organization, as senior officials outlined Beijing’s view of artificial intelligence governance in Beijing on Wednesday.
Top diplomat Wang Yi said the technology should serve human needs and that China welcomes other countries to join its proposed cooperation framework. The comments came as China released a whitepaper on global governance and criticized trade wars and exclusive approaches to technology.
The remarks also reflected the growing policy divide between China and the U.S., as Washington moves to limit foreign access to advanced American AI models while G7 leaders met in France this week without China taking part. Chinese officials said Beijing wants broader international cooperation through groups such as BRICs, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations.
