Ontario Health spent $2.1 million on McKinsey contract

Ontario Health paid McKinsey $2.09M to help implement data reform See why the contract is drawing scrutiny over spending and health savings

Ontario’s Ministry of Health paid McKinsey and Company Canada $2,090,500 during the 202526 fiscal year, according to public accounts. The spending came as the Ford government continued to emphasize finding savings in the province’s health care budget. The ministry listed the payment under “other payments” and gave few details about the work involved. Opposition Liberals questioned whether the contract was tied to Premier Doug Ford’s call for a leaner health system and new efficiencies. A ministry spokesperson later said McKinsey was hired to help implement recommendations from the Ontario Health Data Council, which were meant to guide how health data is used and shared across the system. McKinsey said it was selected through a competitive request for proposal based on its expertise.
