Tech CEO accused of exporting U.S. gear to Iran faces federal charges

Federal prosecutors say Jamshid Ghomi, an IranianAmerican businessman in Newport Coast, California, helped supply restricted U.S. networking, security, and encryption equipment to Iranian entities linked to the country’s military and nuclear program. Authorities allege the scheme lasted more than a decade and involved intermediaries in places including the United Arab Emirates. Prosecutors also say millions of dollars from the alleged operation were moved through offshore accounts and used in part to finance Ghomi’s Newport Coast mansion. The Justice Department says Ghomi faces sanctionsrelated conspiracy charges and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The case is part of a broader U.S. crackdown on procurement networks that move sensitive technology to Iran.
