U.S. strikes Iran’s Revolutionary Guard after attack on troops in Jordan

The U.S. military carried out airstrikes on Sunday against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, saying the action was in response to the killing of American troops in Jordan. The strikes broadened the conflict between the two countries as they continue fighting over control of the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command, the operation hit military coastal surveillance and air defence sites, along with maritime assets and storage facilities for missiles and drones. Video released by the military showed fighter jets and Tomahawk missiles being used in the attacks. The confrontation has now lasted more than a week, with Iran targeting U.S.allied states in the Middle East and the U.S. striking infrastructure and military sites in Iran. The violence has raised concern across the Gulf, where Kuwait activated air defences and the United Arab Emirates urged restraint amid threats to civilian infrastructure.
