A former Hong Kong bank official has been sentenced to four years in prison after falsely authenticating letters of credit tied to more than $1.6 billion and accepting cryptocurrency bribes worth about $470,000. According to the report, Lam Chunyin, 32, worked as a customer relationship manager at China Construction Bank (Asia) and had already pleaded guilty in District Court. The court also ordered him to repay the amount linked to the crypto bribes. The judge said the case was serious because of its potential damage to public trust in Hong Kong’s banking sector. The city’s anticorruption agency has also secured warrants for other people believed to be involved in the scheme.
