The Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled that Freedom Convoy organizer Pat King is guilty of intimidation and has ordered a new sentencing hearing.
King was part of the February 2022 protest in Ottawa that blocked much of downtown for more than three weeks. He had previously been convicted of mischief, counselling mischief and disobeying a court order, and received a 12month conditional sentence.
In its decision, the appeal court said the convoy amounted to a coordinated effort that used disruptive criminal conduct to pressure Ottawa residents for change. The ruling also overturned the trial judge on one count and made the intimidation conviction stand.
