SpaceX to join the Nasdaq-100 after fast-track inclusion
SpaceX joins Nasdaq-100 as fast-track inclusion boosts passive investor exposure Index funds may buy after July 6; see what the change could mean for QQQ holders
Nasdaq has announced that SpaceX will be added to the Nasdaq100 index under its newer fasttrack process for large public companies. If the company meets the remaining requirements, indextracking funds are expected to begin buying shares after the market closes on July 6, with the change effective before trading opens on July 7.
The addition would give passive investors exposure to SpaceX only weeks after its public debut. Funds linked to the Nasdaq100, including the Invesco QQQ Trust, would need to adjust holdings to reflect the index change, although SpaceX is expected to carry a weighting of less than 1%.
Nasdaq’s updated rules allow some newly listed companies to enter the index after 15 trading days, which is much faster than the previous timeline. SpaceX is expected to benefit from that process, while it remains outside the S&P 500 because that index has different profitability and seasoning requirements.
