Canada Day heat wave brings warnings across several provinces

Heat warnings are in effect across parts of Canada as people celebrate Canada Day, with several provinces and one territory facing unusually hot conditions. Environment Canada has issued yellow warnings for parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, the Northwest Territories, Quebec and New Brunswick. Some communities in southern Ontario are under orange warnings, with daytime highs expected to reach the low to upper 30s Celsius in places such as Ottawa and Windsor. The heat is also being accompanied by severe weather in some areas. Parts of Ontario were under severe thunderstorm watches or warnings on Wednesday afternoon, with risks including strong wind gusts, heavy rain and hail. Officials are urging people to limit time outdoors, drink water regularly and watch for signs of heat stroke as the warm weather is expected to continue into the weekend.
