Police stop armed man approaching Ohio governor candidate at fair
Ohio fair shooting scare: Armed man stopped before reaching Amy Acton Officials say she was unharmed; see how troopers intervened and what happened
Authorities say an armed man pushed through a crowd at the Canfield Fair in Ohio on Sept. 6 while trying to reach Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol intercepted him before he reached Acton, and officials said she was not injured.
According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the man, identified as Patrick M. Havas, 38, knocked over several fairgoers and was carrying a taser and two pistols. He was taken into custody and booked on assault and disorderly conduct charges, while investigators continue to review what led to the confrontation.
Acton’s campaign and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine both condemned the violence and said law enforcement responded quickly. The incident took place at a campaign event during a crowded county fair as the Ohio governor’s race continues ahead of the November election.
