Firefighters from Yukon, Alberta and Mexico to join B.C. wildfire response

Wildland firefighters from Yukon and Alberta are arriving in British Columbia this week to help crews respond to more than 130 active wildfires across the province. The support comes as B.C. faces tens of thousands of hectares burned, along with evacuation orders and alerts affecting many residents. Provincial officials said local crews are working at full capacity and that outside help will give them added coverage and time to rest. B.C. Wildfire Service says 114 personnel from Mexico are expected to join the effort on Aug. 3. Officials described the response as a shared effort, noting that B.C. also sends crews to help other jurisdictions when needed. The province said it had contacted U.S. partners as well, but they are dealing with their own wildfire pressure and cannot assist at this time.
