U.S. stocks saw notable midday moves on Wednesday as investors reacted to earnings, acquisitions, analyst upgrades and merger news across several sectors.
Meta Platforms rose after reports said the company is building a cloud business and plans to sell excess AI computing capacity to outside customers. General Mills gained after quarterly results beat analyst expectations and the company outlined longterm costsaving plans. Datadog advanced after announcing the acquisition of AI startup Adaptive ML, while Progress Software climbed on strongerthanexpected secondquarter results and outlook.
Other movers included Nike, which reversed earlier losses after reporting betterthanexpected fourthquarter results, and Samsung? no, Sandisk and Micron, which fell after a strong second quarter. Shares of Shutterstock dropped sharply after Getty ended its proposed merger because of U.K. regulatory demands, while Alcoa declined after announcing a $4.1 billion deal to acquire assets from South32. Salesforce and ServiceNow rose after Guggenheim upgraded both stocks to buy, and Bloom Energy gained on an expanded partnership with Brookfield tied to AI infrastructure.
