Hundreds of people gathered at a LaSalle park on Tuesday evening to remember threeyearold Ava Ciampini, who died after a bouncy castle was lifted by strong winds during a community event on May 31.
Mourners left flowers, stuffed animals and handwritten notes at Ouellette Park as a sign of support for the girl’s family. Witnesses said wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres an hour carried the inflatable structure into the air before it came back down, injuring 11 people, including six who were hospitalized.
The tragedy has deeply affected the community. Ava’s family said her organs were donated after her death, helping save four other lives. Her father, Luca Ciampini, described her as full of personality and joy.
