More rain expected in southern Quebec after Montreal-area flooding

Environment Canada says more thunderstorms could affect southern Quebec after a weekend storm system brought severe flooding to parts of Montreal’s West Island and nearby municipalities. Saturday’s nearstationary storms dropped about 100 to 170 millimetres of rain in some areas, overwhelming drainage systems, flooding streets and homes, and leaving thousands without power. Officials in PierrefondsRoxboro and DollarddesOrmeaux said crews were still pumping water, clearing debris, and helping residents recover. More than 300 homes were reported flooded in PierrefondsRoxboro and DollarddesOrmeaux, and emergency responders handled hundreds of 911 calls. HydroQuébec said outages were steadily declining, while municipalities asked residents to limit water use and wait for electrical inspections if water reached their panels. Officials also warned that the ground may already be too saturated to absorb much more rain.
