World Cup prize money rises to record levels for 2026

FIFA has announced a record prize pool for the 2026 World Cup, with hundreds of millions of dollars to be distributed to teams competing in the tournament across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The governing body said it will distribute USD 727 million in total financial support, including prize money and preparation payments. Each qualified team will also receive USD 1.5 million for preparation costs, and all participating member associations are guaranteed at least USD 10.5 million in total, even if they exit in the group stage. The payout reflects the expanded 48team format and the higher travel costs associated with the threehostnation event. FIFA said the champions will receive USD 50 million, while teams finishing lower in the standings will receive smaller amounts based on placement. The total prize money is up 50% from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
