Trump renews claim that the U.S. should control Greenland

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Greenland should be controlled by the United States rather than Denmark, reviving a longrunning dispute that has strained ties between Washington and Copenhagen. The comments came as NATO leaders gathered for a summit in Turkey, where the issue added to already tense relations among allies. Trump has repeatedly argued that the Arctic territory is strategically important, while Danish officials have rejected the idea. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Greenland is not for sale and that its future should be decided by its people. Greenland’s foreign minister also said the territory’s future belongs to Greenlanders, while close cooperation with allies should continue.
