Quebec coroner investigates deaths of two people pulled from Lachine Canal

Quebec’s coroner’s office is investigating the deaths of two men who were pulled from Montreal’s Lachine Canal late Saturday night. Emergency crews were called to the canal near RenéLévesque Park shortly before midnight. Firefighters and the Canadian Coast Guard searched the area with three boats before both people were taken to hospital by paramedics. Montreal fire officials said one person appears to have fallen into the water, and a second person likely entered the canal while trying to help. The coroner’s office said it will examine the circumstances and causes of the deaths.
