Marc Messier, a wellknown Quebec actor, has died after a brief illness at the age of 78, according to his agency.
Messier built a long career across theatre, television and film. He helped cowrite Broue, the stage play that became a landmark success in Quebec culture and was performed thousands of times over more than three decades.
He also became familiar to TV audiences through roles in Lance et compte and La Petite Vie, and later reached a wider audience with the Les Boys film series. Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette was among those who paid tribute, calling him an important figure in the province’s cultural life. Messier is survived by his immediate family, including three children.
