IonQ shares rise after quantum computing breakthrough
IonQ shares jump after a real-time quantum error decoder breakthrough See why the test could accelerate fault-tolerant quantum computing
IonQ shares rose on Wednesday after the company said it had demonstrated the quantum industry’s first endtoend realtime quantum error decoder. The announcement briefly lifted the stock more than 11% in premarket trading, with gains reaching as high as 15%.
The company said the test shows that a standard computer processor can identify, correct, and decode errors while a quantum system is running. IonQ said this could help address a major challenge in quantum computing, where error correction has often slowed progress and limited system performance.
The news also boosted other quantum computing stocks, including Rigetti Computing, DWave, and Quantum Computing. IonQ said the work supports a path toward more practical faulttolerant quantum computing.
