B.C. man accused of murdering ex-wife tells jury he is not guilty

Vitali Stefanski, who is on trial in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops for the seconddegree murder of his exwife Tatjana Stefanski, told jurors during closing arguments that he did not kill her and that the Crown had not proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Stefanski, who recently began representing himself, argued that his exwife's death looked like a suicide and rejected testimony from police that he confessed at the scene. He also disputed the Crown's interpretation of the evidence, including the condition of a knife found nearby and forensic findings described at trial. The jury began deliberations after hearing final submissions from both sides. The case concerns the death of Tatjana Stefanski, whose body was found in April 2024 off a rural forest service road near Lumby, B.C.
