Canada men's flag team holds camp ahead of world championship
Canada flag football selection camp heats up as Emile Chenevert eyes Germany Recovery won’t slow his Olympic push—see who’s competing for a spot on the roster
Emile Chenevert, a family doctor from Quebec City, is taking part in Canada’s men’s flag football selection camp in Winnipeg as the team prepares for the IFAF world championship in Germany in August.
Chenevert is recovering from a foot sprain and is limited to meetings and observation, but national team coach Paul LaPolice said he remains one of the group’s strongest players and a key leader. Chenevert was also part of Canada’s bronzemedal team at last year’s Americas Continental Championship in Panama.
The world championship will help determine qualification for flag football’s Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Another camp will be held this year, and up to 20 players are expected to move on to a June selection camp in California, where the final roster for Germany will be chosen. Receiver Daniel Petermann, another camp participant with CFL experience, is also trying to earn a place on the team.
