Patel says FBI has moved agents to field offices in overhaul

FBI restructuring shifts 1,000+ staff to field offices, boosting response and trust See how AI, spending cuts, and a HQ move could reshape the bureau's future

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau has carried out a major internal restructuring over the past 14 months, shifting more than 1,000 agents and staff from Washington to field offices and moving additional intelligence personnel closer to active cases. In a draft letter to employees reported by Fox News, Patel said the changes are meant to reduce bureaucracy, improve trust, and make the FBI more effective in daytoday law enforcement. He also said the agency has expanded its use of artificial intelligence to help process tips and identify threats. Patel said the bureau has already cut more than $300 million in spending after reviewing contracts and facilities. He added that a planned relocation of FBI headquarters could lead to further longterm savings, while new efforts have also emphasized domestic terrorism, politically motivated violence, and closer coordination with local agencies and private companies.
