South Korean defence company Hanwha says it has reached an agreement with Algoma Steel to supply militarygrade steel for a possible land vehicle manufacturing project in Canada.
The announcement was made in Vaughan, Ont., alongside South Korean government officials. Hanwha said the steel supply deal is tied to its broader plan to partner in Canada on military land vehicles for the Canadian Armed Forces and for export.
The agreements are linked to Hanwha’s bid for Canada’s submarine contract, which would see the company supply up to 12 submarines for the navy. Canadian officials have said the government is expected to choose a winner this month.
