Carly Simon says she has Parkinson’s disease and skin cancer

Carly Simon has revealed that she has been living with Parkinson’s disease and was also treated for basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. The 83yearold singer said she decided to speak publicly after years of relative silence, explaining that health issues and surgery led her to step back from public life. Simon said her symptoms began with arthritis in her knees and hip, followed by worsening mobility that led to multiple joint replacement surgeries. After further evaluation at the Mayo Clinic, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She said the condition affects her energy and movement in different ways from day to day. The singer also said surgery to remove cancer from her face changed her appearance and made her more selfconscious about being seen. Despite the diagnoses, Simon said she has continued working and is recording a new album, titled Comes in Waves.
