IAEA says U.S.-Iran deal allows access to nuclear sites
IAEA inspections of Iran's nuclear sites are back under the U.S.-Iran deal See how the interim agreement could open damaged facilities to UN monitors
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday that the interim U.S.Iran peace agreement gives UN inspectors access to Iran’s nuclear sites, including facilities affected by recent strikes.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in Tokyo that the monitoring work under the memorandum of understanding cannot happen without inspections. He said technical work has begun and that the agency expects to return soon.
The comments come after President Donald Trump said Iran had agreed to nuclear inspections, while Iranian officials denied there was any new plan for IAEA inspectors to visit the country. The two sides have also continued to dispute other details of the wider 14point deal, which includes ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz for at least 60 days.
