Vancouver restaurants see continued boost from Canada’s World Cup run

Vancouver bars, pubs, and restaurants see a World Cup business boost downtown Canada’s run lifts sales and foot traffic—see how match days are filling venues

Vancouver bars, pubs, and restaurants are seeing a continued lift in business as Canada’s historic World Cup run draws more fans downtown, according to the head of B.C.’s Restaurant and Foodservices Association. Ian Tostenson said match days have brought more customers and stronger sales, with the biggest impact coming when Canada is on the field. He said many venues are opening early for the roundof16 match against Morocco, which is set for Saturday morning in Houston. Jane Talbot, CEO of the Downtown Business Improvement Association, said the atmosphere on Granville Street has been upbeat and busy, with many businesses reporting heavy foot traffic and strong sales. She added that while the busiest venues are seeing record levels, the benefits are not the same for every business in the area.
