OpenAI calls for global youth AI safety standards

The announcement comes ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Évian, France, where OpenAI plans to discuss youth safety with governments and other stakeholders. The company is calling for an international youth safety institute, or a global mandate for an existing institute, to help coordinate research, guidance, and standards over time. OpenAI outlined a set of principles for youth AI safety, including age estimation, regular risk assessments, parental controls, clearer safety disclosures, stronger protections against harmful content, and independent audits. The company also said it has already added parental controls, ageprediction systems, and other safeguards in ChatGPT, and is working with educators and governments on researchdriven deployments in schools.
