Alberta will begin issuing redesigned driver licences on July 2 that combine the licence with a health card number, replacing the province’s longused paper health cards.
The new cards will also include a citizenship marker, a change the province says will help determine eligibility for government services and voting. Applicants will need to prove they are legally allowed to be in Canada when applying for a new card or renewing a licence, and they must show their health card if they want the number added.
The province says the cost will stay the same. The updated design also removes the dinosaur image from the current licence and replaces it with an oil derrick and a wild rose.
