OpenAI backs EU code on transparency for AI-generated content

OpenAI said it supports the European Commission’s new Code of Practice on Transparency of AIGenerated Content, a measure tied to the EU AI Act and aimed at making online content origin clearer. The company said it has spent years developing provenance tools, including C2PA metadata, watermarking, and a public verification tool for supported images. It also noted that it has worked with industry groups such as C2PA and other stakeholders to improve standards that can help identify AIgenerated or edited content. OpenAI said provenance signals can help people understand how content was created, but it warned that current methods are still imperfect because metadata and watermarks can be lost or altered as content is shared online. The company said it will continue working with EU officials and the wider AI ecosystem on transparency and interoperability.
