Babcock says Oilers must improve defensively after high-scoring start

Oilers defense needs work after 13 goals allowed in two games under Mike Babcock Edmonton looks to tighten up against Seattle, with more structure and urgency

Edmonton Oilers coach Mike Babcock said the team’s defensive issues are a coaching problem after his club allowed 13 goals in its first two games of the 202627 season. The Oilers opened with a 65 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken and a 97 win over the Vancouver Canucks, while still producing 14 goals. Babcock said the team will keep working on its defensive structure and is not overly concerned this early in the season. Edmonton practiced Friday with a focus on defending better ahead of Saturday’s game against Seattle. Defencemen Jake Walman and Shakir Mukhamadullin were among the players highlighted as the team tries to tighten up in its own end.
